
Wanmei Ou
Biography: As a proud mother of two daughters, Wanmei Ou is committed to leveraging data and technology to achieve a sustainable healthcare system. Wanmei is currently a Vice President of Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Ontada. She is responsible for strategic roadmap, data science, and data informatics to ensure high quality of data and reproducible methods are delivered to life science real-world evidence research study and provider-facing clinical decision support applications. She is also a steering committee member of CodeX, a HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Accelerator, working to advance the adoption of FHIR as the standard to obtain high-quality, computable data for patient care and research.
Since graduating from Massachusetts Institution of Technology with a PhD in Computer Science, Wanmei has led multiple enterprise digital initiatives transforming the use of data to enable precision medicine. In her most recent position as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow (PIF) detailed at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Wanmei leads the VA’s data and analysis platform (Rockies) and the SMART-on-FHIR clinical decision platform. These two platforms combined unleash the power of data across the enterprise to support the learning health system.
Prior to PIF, Wanmei was a Director of Outcomes Research and Data Science at Merck & Co., Inc., she focused on the generation of real-world evidence through both observational studies and innovation pilots. Her team was ranked the top 25 submissions in the recent CMS AI challenge.
Prior to Merck, Wanmei was a product strategist at Oracle Healthcare Life Sciences Global Business Unit, where she oversaw an end-to-end software product development cycle from business plans to product launch and implementation. During this time, she also served on the Health Information Technology Standards Committee supporting the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
